After a long drive south we finally found good weather and set up for a bit of a rest and a catch up with the washing at a small campsite between Barjac and Vallons Pont D'Arc in the Ardeche. There we lazed around for 4 days with walks through the deserted and very pretty forests and river valleys around this area.

On Thu
16 we headed off to the market in Vallons Pont D'Arc and stopped overnight in the busy aire in the town. It certainly had a real Southern French feel with the cicadas chirping, accordion playing and the clack of petanque being played. In the morning we drove down to have a look at the famous Arc, but we have visited here before and, although pretty, it's a bit touristy.

On Fri
17 we headed further south to Chateauneuf du Pape and a small campsite just outside the village. We decided to stay here another night and, on the Saturday, despite his best efforts, the site owner couldn't manage to get the England v Australia Rugby game on the TV, but it was kind of him to try. We mooched around the village and sampled a couple of glasses of the famous local wine in a café, but were generally unimpressed. The samples offered by a local vigneron were much better and, accordingly, we purchased a few bottles.
