Barnsley 19 - 23 Jul 2018

A quick trip up to South Yorkshire to attend Kate Rusby's Underneath the Stars festival. We really enjoyed last year's event although we were slightly nervous about the 2018 event as they have moved the festival to the other side of the village and there were not so many good acts advertised.

We decided to break the journey at the Motorhome and caravan Club Site at Clumber Park, using a free night's camping voucher that the club had very generously sent us and I nearly threw away thinking that it was junk mail. It was a very peaceful and relaxing stop and we didn't do too much, apart from getting up early to complete the short journey to Cawthorne, near Barnsley, where we would spend the next 4 nights. The first day was warm and sunny but the weather deteriorated over the weekend, with Saturday night being particularly chilly. Still, it wasn't a bad festival, but, unfortunately, the acts were nowhere near as good as last year's. The site itself is OK though and Cawthorne village is very pretty. The weather did improve on Sunday.

On the way back home on Monday we stopped at Wentworth, near Rotherham, to do a bit of ancestry research. What a very pretty place! After finding Great, Great, Grandmother's grave, we had a delicious cream tea, walked around the marvellous garden centre, then continued on home.
