Shell Island 13-15 Oct 16

Shell Island in North Wales - a place we've wanted to visit for a long time. Set on an Island just past the old RAE Llanbedr airfield, this is a massive site in a stunning location. Access and egress is dependent upon the tide covering the causeway linking the island, so timing is important. We found a spot (not difficult on what is reputed to be Europe's biggest campsite) overlooking the sea and admired the beautiful views, albeit there was some noise from the major military exercise taking place in the area.

C130 flying over the airfield - we missed the Para drop the day before.

On Friday we mounted up and rode out to see Harlech then on to Portmeirion, again another place we have wanted to visit. A bit expensive, but it was worth it. We won't be going on the little train ride around the woods again though. At one stage it must have been going flat out at possibly as much as 3mph! We enjoyed a very nice lunch of Welsh lamb casserole served in a massive Yorkshire pudding, watched a wedding taking place, and then scooted back onto Shell Island before we missed the tide.

On Friday night it was Oktoberfest - a great evening in the tent erected for the evening, albeit the oompah band missed the tide and were stuck on the other side of the causeway! On Saturday we had a walk along the endless beaches and dunes before heading back into Oktoberfest part 2. Luckily the oompah band made it across this time.

On Sunday we joined the long queues waiting for the tide to go out to leave the island and head across to Shropshire once again. Shell Island is a fantastic place and we would really like to go back.
