Thetford Forest 18-23 Jan 19

The first time we have been out in ages. We were due to go to the Peak District in November, but just as we were setting out we developed a nasty diesel leak which couldn't be repaired on site, so the trip was cancelled, the van lifted to a garage and we spent two days trying to clean diesel spillage off of the drive. Not a good experience.
Broken fuel pipe!

Anyway, a deal too good to miss, coupled with a desire to do lots of walking, meant that we would spend a few days at Puddledock Farm in Thetford Forest, an ex Camping Club site but now made friendly. After a very warm welcome, we settled in to our spacious pitch and commenced 3 days of extensive walking through the forest. I never knew what a Pingo was until we walked the Pingo trail  but found out that as the glaciers retreated in the ice-age, they left hard masses of ice which eventually had soil over them.  Then, as the climate became warmer and the ice melted away, the soil on top formed depressions, leaving a hole filled with water – hence the Pingo was formed (Pingo is the Eskimo word for hill).  The weather was cool, but sunny, and we had a great time on this wonderful site, including a visit to a couple of local pubs. On Tuesday, reluctantly, we set off for a night at Clippesby Hall site prior to a visit to the dealer to check up on a couple of issues. Clippesby Hall is not a bad site, but rather muddy and a bit tatty as lots of building work is going on. This is probably the only time of the year that we can afford to stay here as the prices rocket to unbelievable levels later in the year and only the very rich can afford to stay there.
